Is my cactus dying or corking?!

    i recently adopted this cactus and the only info the lady gave me was that she has had it 20+ years. Can anyone help to tell me if it is roting or just corking?!

    I'd say corking rather than carking, but check to see if it is firm there - if soft, then it's carking.
