Is it camellia?

    Hi all,

    This flowering shrub has just been introduced to Thailand.
    To me, it looks similar to camellia but the leaves are quite long.
    Can this be camellia? What species is it?

    Or is it something else? any idea?

    My friend just told me it's Camellia amplexicaulis from Vietnam :)
    The leaves look very tropical in appearance and can be as long as 11 inches!!

    A most spectacular species. I wonder whether anyone in Florida is growing C. amplexicaulis?
