Is it cabbage?

    I got these photos from a forwarded mail and there is no information.
    It looks somewhat like cabbage but not sure what it really is.
    Any idea what this strange looking plant is and where it is from?

    A species of Saussurea; not sure which. Somewhere at very high altitude (~4000m +) in the Himalaya.

    Thank you very much Michael.
    I looked up for Saussurea and found out that this species might be
    S. involucrata known as Snow Lotus in the Himalaya, Mongolia, China.
