We recently purchased a home in Georgia and have two of these trees in the front yard. They are different from the standard plantings we find in the subdivision. Can any one help identify them? One local said the thought it was a Chinese Ash but that isn't right. Please provide and input to help us.

I dont recognize it specifically but it does have an Oak appearance, the cluster of buds at the tip makes me think so. try cutting a small branc through, look at the center, does it have a star shaped pith or round? star shaped is also an Oak characteristic.

Oak. There are many kinds. Take a twig to a nursery.

I cut a branch and checked the pith pattern and it is round, no star. We had pruned several small and large branches and they all exhibit a round central core.

Definitely an oak. Post another pic with full-grown leaves in a month or two for better options on identification to species. Also do a close-up photo of the underside of a leaf (a flatbed scanner may give better results than a digi camera)

    Michael,
Thanks for the input. The leaves started out red and then as they mature are turning all green. I will let them mature and try again in a month or two. Thanks again.
