I am not a green thumb but have inherited a fantastic garden from the previous owner. I noticed the attached plants just in the last week or so, growing in amongst some oak leaf hydrangea. I have not seen them before (i.e., last year), but that does not necessarily mean they were never there. can someone help identify them for me? They seem suspiciously weed-like: they're healthy and prodigious and growing where I didn't expect anything. To my untrained eye they sort of look like blackberry, but they don't have thorns. Thank you in advance, Paul
Welcome Paul. Not a weed, nor a blackberry! It is Rodgersia sp. https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=kpiyT-apH5HA8QPHicmMCQ I love them. Interesting leaves followed later by tall flower spikes in white, red or pink depending on which one it is. Not positive but it may be Rodgersia pinnata.. http://d3cpbnz5wsq6do.cloudfront.net/production/media/8284/original.jpg?1275055017
In other words a choice exotic perennial that will need to be kept watered through our droughty summers, and protected from hot sun. The furthest thing from a weed.
