is it a virginia copperleaf?

    plants of that kind are mixed in with a flower garden near farm fields - the stems are smooth, photos show the plant passed the flower stage, what you see are already seeds or empty pods at the top of each stem -

    Yes, an Acalypha. Probably A. virginica or A. rhomboidea. Are you in Arkansas?

    I'm not sure it is an A. virginica, the stems are not hairy, as described on the link A. virginica, yes- I'm in AR, Lonoke County- thanks for identifying the genus- the plants covered some bare spots and looked pretty in the flower beds.
