In The Garden: Invasive weed

    This weed showed up several years ago and is rapidly spreading. The small flowers are actually lavender, not white as they appear in the photo.

    Looks like Elephants foot flower (Elephantopus elatus).
    I consider them to be wildflowers...

    Thank you. I'm not fond of it because it spreads everywhere, and it doesn't feel good underfoot.

    Elephantopus elatus is not listed for Maryland.
    Could be Elephantopus carolinianus which is quite similar to it.

    It is probably elephantopus carolinianus. We are well within the range, and there is at least one leaf on the stem in addition to basal leaves. Thank you all for the help.
