Hello My name is Gerald, I live in Halifax NS and I am interested in the care and feeding of Peonies. I have three in my garden at the moment and I want to put in more, but I am curious about feeding them. I suspect in the spring once they have started to produce shoots, but what should I feed them, if anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gerry
Gerry-the pro peony growers in the Fraser Valley here grow them pretty lean, they will put up lots of leaves but few flowers if the soil gets too rich. I would add a bit of compost each year and leave it at that, mine have never had anything else and bloom great for the last 15 years.
Thanks kindly for the quick reply. I will leave them until spring and give them a little compost from my pile. Gerry
