    "Rootstock in Korea?" I wonder if that's correct?

    I believe yes. It seems that Korea, having a climate very favorable to Acer palmatum culture , is home for large operations of rootstock plants which are then exported all over the world.

    Gomero, Would you know why the canal water is so contaminated ? Interestingly here, the ground water is so contaminated from the intensive farming it is unfit for a human water supply, but still fed to the dairy cattle, chickens, and for irrigation.

    Hmmm, I do not know whether the contamination that killed the maples was temporary or permanent. Next time there I will ask. In any case, personally, I would not take a dip in those channels ;o))

    Otherwise I am sure that an Internet search on 'Dutch channels contamination heavy metals' will yield plenty of information
