When you have a free moment check out this paper on fall colors (Davidsonia 14:4) "Autumn Colours – Nature’s Canvas is a Silk Parasol". I know there is lots of information on this topic out there in cyber space, but I think this one is definitely worth checking out. Don't get turned off by the scientific mumbo-jumbo of the short Abstract section, because the rest is very well written and easy to follow. So much great information given and I thought it was interesting when they mention higher PH bringing out purple in otherwise red leaves. If you can't bear to get through it in it's entirety, then at very least go to page 9 of 13 and try the experiment at the top of the page this fall (it might be fun for people of all ages including little ones). Using the knowledge gained by this paper, you can then explain to your children or grandchildren the how and why. Hope you enjoy: http://www.davidsonia.org/files/14_4_guy_autumn_colours.pdf
I enjoyed the other one page article more because it is a bit more simple than this one but both are very benificial for me to understand about the process and factors that are effecting the falls color. From the one page fall color article, I now learned that the drought in the summer then the heavy rain last week caused the leaves to fall even before they turn to color. Steven
I enjoyed more from the other one page article on 'fall color' that you shared earlier because it is a bit more simple than this detailed one but both are very benificial for me to understand about the process and factors that are effecting the falls color. Thanks, Steven
