Ink cap look alikes

    i live in south texas and i was wondering if yall knew any ink cap look alikes because i alway find a few of them and every book i have looked in just shows the edible ink cap

    When there are a few specimens in the group deliquescing / melting into black goo, you know you have inky caps, but the question then is, which kind of inky caps.

    They were formerly all grouped in Coprinus genus, and will still be listed as such in all but the newest mushroom books.
    Coprinus comatus the Shaggy Mane is edible. Formerly-known-as-Coprinus atramentarius the Inky Cap is reportedly edible, though not if you drink alcohol within a few days either side of consuming it. There are a number of inky caps growing along my street right now, some are C. micaceous (no idea if edible) as well as others that I can't positively ID to species.
