I have a problem with my kumquat seedling, which is about 1½ years old now.
When I moved it inside this winter there were some snails hidden in the pot who ate from the bark, I removed the ones I could find but unfortunely I didn't get them all so they ate quite alot of the bark, as this repeated itself a couple of times. After that there was only a 1-2 mm wide strip of bark left on 1 cm of the stem, the rest is fine and there is ~4cm up to the only leaf. The kumquat seemed fine until 1½ month ago when the top sprout died and after that it lost 3 of it's 4 leafs, and the top is now completly dead, but still 1 leaf left.

So my question is, can and should I cut of the kumquat below the injury? Or is it likely that it's dying for another reason?
