One day I realized that there was a tree growing that had the leaves of a peach but the color of a Japanese maple. I almost hedge clipped it but I let it alone and soon it grew mini peaches. All I know is that it is semi rare and that the peaches are small. Any additional info would be much appreciated.
Hard to tell from the description. Japanese maples come in various shades of green, purple, red, and take on other colours in the fall, so I'm not clear on which you're referring to..The 'semi-rare' designation, and the small peach-like fruit bring Prunus mume to mind, but that's really just a top-of-the-head guess, and might not even be close. Do a google image search on the name, see if it looks similar. You'll have to post pics to get a proper ID.
Multiple purple-leaved peaches have been grown over the years. These include 'Bloodleaf', 'Foliis Rubris', 'Hiawatha', 'Kingston Redleaf'. 'Rancho Redleaf', 'Royal Redleaf' and 'Rutgers Redleaf'. There is also the purplish hybrid 'Citation', used for rootstock and looking more like a peach than a plum tree. It is the result of a peach pollinating a plum.
