There is other online information regarding espalier
but this link below is a good starting point.

To espalier Pears it does make a difference in whether
the tree is a fruiting Pear or an Ornamental Pear as one
form is a little easier to train than the other is but both
forms are considered to be easier to espalier than an
Apple. Although an Apple is not that difficult to train
to grow on a trellis or permanently attached to a wall
    or to a fence.

We have two 'Redspire' Ornamental Pears that came to
us as being trellised and they work fine but I also have
to prune the tops back about three times a year where we
are as the multi-branched trees want to grow up high first
and then fill in the middles later. We have to force the
growth into the middle areas for those trees and to do
that we have to stay on top of the taller portions of the
tree canopies to see it happen.

    Hi

Many thanks for replying to my question, we are amateurs at this sort of thing, so it is very helful. We moved to a place in the country in July so have lots of room to try some new things which is lovely. We are in East Yorkshire, wherabouts are you and have you had any fruit off your pears?
Have a lovely Xmas and a peaceful New Year.
    Regards Ann

No, the Redspire's in Fresno have not produced any
fruit for the red squirrels to eat this time of year.
We do have mini fruit smaller in size of a US penny
or a 1 cent Euro coin come off our Bradford Pears
which are also an Ornamental Pear. I have 4 fruiting
Pears here in my backyard and have a Seckel, a Red
Sensation, a Red d'Anjou and a Red Comice that I've
    had for over 25 years.

Here is another link closer to home for you. The
information can be applied to a Pear as well.

Two more links that may come in handy as the links
may lead to other information on espalier.

    Hi

Hope you had a nice holiday, we have had quite a lot of snow here on the 27th and it is still here, looks lovely outside but oh so cold. Anyway many thanks for replying I have printed off the information from one of the links you gave me so it is very useful, we will see how it goes in years to come.
    Thanks again
    Ann
