Hello, I need some help finding some hearty indoor shade plants for a long dark hallway I have in my house. It gets virtually no light.. From online, I have found that the following plants would be ok in this environment: cast iron plant, sanseneria, rochford holly fer, mother in laws tongue, emerald star, philodendren, asparagus fern. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can buy these plants and/or any other plant suggestions and where I can buy them? Thank you
You might need to be more specific about "virtually no light." (Dimensions of hallway, number and type of light sources, etc.) If it's the sort of situation I'm picturing in my head, there may be no plants suitable for the location. Even "low-light" plants still need some light. Despite their reputation, I wouldn't recommend that anyone try to grow a Sansevieria (the same thing as mother-in-law's tongue, by the way) or asparagus fern in a low-light spot.
Agree with MS above. You might try a vase or planter filled with a varied display of dried leaves and interesting seed pods. Or (I'm not saying this) Try either genus plasticus or genus silkis plants...
If anything is going to survive in a low light situation, it will likely be the corn plant, Dracaena fragrans. I've seen these tucked away in dark corners of offices, where they seem to survive for months without any attention. They're cheap, readily available, and worth trying.
two more that can stand low light. Chamaedora elegans aka Parlor palm Aspidistra eleator aka Cast iron plant
