Identification: Indoor plant with lean longer leaves

    Hello there, there are two plants in our office we cannot identify, they seem to be related, but of a different family (if that is the correct term to use :), the leaves grow rolled in a membrane, which then falls off.

    Thanks for any input.

    Bromeliads, can't be more specific without blossoms.

    Thanks loads saltcedar, collegues identified the plant as Guzmania, when seeing it with blossoms :) I've never seen it blossom.

    I'd say your colleagues would be pretty close to right with the Guzmania I.D. but again flowers would give a definite on that. They are in desperate need of TLC! I've found Guzmania to be one of the more sensitive bromeliads and need a little more attention than most.

    Here's a red Guzmania flowering in my yard, might give you an idea.
    This flower is close to 4 weeks old!
