I have an indoor avocado tree that is 2yrs old, 6ft tall. It has a long skinny trunk and two branches midway up and a cluster of 8 or 10 branches at the top. I do have 12 foot tall ceilings but am interested in finding out how to prune so that this plant can stay inside an so the trunk can thicken up. It is very healthy and i dont want to do anything risky to it like binding the roots. any ideas?

    Hi,

One suggestion is to cut the top off just above the lower most set of branches (in your top cluster of 8). I would leave the two lowest branches for now. Doing this will encourage the other branches to grow and branch out. The goal here is to create a shrub rather than a tree, since it will be living in your home. Hope this helps.
