    Hi Everyone,

I live in Calgary and just moved into my house 2 years ago. I have a tree in the front yard and I have no clue what kind of tree it is. For the past 2 summers, I've noticed the bark has been shedding and some of the branches have no leaves on it.

I'm worried it's dying. Any help on identifying what kind of tree it is would be much appreaciated.

    Thanks in advance!
    Rico

Looks like Prunus virginiana or Prunus serotina or Prunus padus.
Same thing happened to my cherries. Two huge trees both died. Started with dry branches and in two years - gone. I suspect herbicides.

Thank you for your response. I also showed the pictures to my local aborist. He says the tree is dying from black knot fungus on the trunk. Now I'm pretty concerned my tree will die. Would this be the correct forum for this thread for help on remedying a tree?

    Thank you
    Rico
