What effect is there in putting a user on the Ignore List? Threads started by that user, do they disappear? Posts by that user, do they disappear or are they replaced with a placeholder?
Well this is what the FAQ says: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/faq.php?s=&do=search&q=ignore+list&match=all&titlesonly=0 I just put someone in my ignore list, but I couldn't see that anything happened. I could still see their posts. (It may not be possible for an administrator to actually put someone on an ignore list.?) You can always try it and undo it.
OK, I tried it with Oscar and it worked this time. The post appears, but in place of the message it says, "This message is hidden because oscar is on your ignore list." And it gives you the opportunity to remove Oscar from your ignore list. I suppose posts of people in the ignore list would not be returned in searches, including New Posts. I think I better take Oscar off the ignore list, never know what he might write. Gotta watch that one! Just kidding Oscar.
I just tried it but unfortunately it has no effect on threads started by the user as they are still displayed. Thought I could cut down on the bandwidth. Thanks anyway.
have you considered talking to your phone company...we had trouble with our credit card machine dialing through to the bank, so the phone company boosted the power to our line, at least thats what he said they could do.
There are some options in your settings that might cut down on your download times - if you select "show newest posts first" and five posts per page. Also, there is an option to only show threads newer than a specific time frame. I'm impressed with how much customizing can be done and the features of the forums. WCG
The options are many and useful but they can only do so much. I think the volume of traffic in the forums has been increasing to the point where perhaps new strategies may have to be adopted on my part. For example, the New Posts function becomes less useful as it now returns more entries from forums in which I have no interest. I'll just have to see what I can do with the options that I have. (Anyway it's a good excuse to go to a higher-speed connection.)
