Identity Crisis!: What is this plant?

I received this plant as a graduation gift and have no idea what kind it is. I have never seen one like it. It appears to be healthy. I gather that it likes partial sun and slightly moist soil. I'm wondering if it will ever bloom and if it needs any special care to stay healthy.
