identifying plant species.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me identify the plant or wood species that I recently came across. Thanx ~ M

 

Partly it looks like bamboo rootstock and culm base sections.

Otherwise it looks like something extraterrestrial.

 

Here is a similar example (thanks Ron) via Guadua Bamboo.

Perhaps that's the what, which makes me curious about the why.

 

Who, and for what reason, gathered these together...?
And why in this place? From whence?
Intriguing.
