Can anyone identify the plant in the pictures? I would like to know so I could give it proper care. Thank you very much.
That's a Dracanea, maybe Drac. "Janet Craig" although I could be wrong there. Fairly easy to care for - make sure it gets water about once a week, and give it sunlight.
i'd say it's draceana 'lemon lime'. well draining soil, water when it's dry down an inch or two (that size container should be about every two weeks) and give it bright light...not full sun all day long, in the morning for a couple hours and the rest of the day indirect light.
Huh. Here, Dracs are used as living fenceposts - full sun, but lots of water. They get very tall under those conditions.
Not exactly. Some of the narrow leafed variegated cultivars of Dracaena fragrans are a bit touchier to grow than the others. Its definitely Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana'. Dracaena fragrans 'Janet Craig' has plain green leaves not variegated. (Note that cultivar names should always be in single quotes.) The "corn plant" is Zea mays, a grass, not a Dracaena.
hmmm, i've never seen it recommended that drac's be kept in full sun up here...must be something with the latitude? i do keep the two that i have (variegated and compacta) in indirect bright light and they do very well. i had a variegated one years ago and kept it in full sun and it died within a few months...
I also fried one putting it in a window; now grow them in filtered but bright light and water rather more like a succulent and them seem happy.
My sister has a Dracaena fragrans "Massangeana" Corn plant a real nice one that hardly gets that much indirect light at all because it sits in a corner near a window with curtains closed all the time on that side of the house, not sure why. I guess that's was the only room for it. In spite of that it looks good, nice and healthy all the same.So I guess what I'm saying is, they don't NEED direct sun to do well.
Agree with the id and corn plant is the common name, but doesn't mean it is "corn" and it will grow in a range of light from indirect light to full sun Ed
