I find identifying these plants to be the most difficult of all, mainly because there are often so little differences between varieties
At the moment I am having considerable difficulty with two red varieties. These were bought many many years ago when their names were of no importance. Today I would like to know what they are
These are pictures of the two which are irritating me
The first is a very low growing variety. It is distinctly red and holds that red colour fairly well throughout the summer. It is much redder than say Garnet, and it gets sun almost all day, although our sun is not necessarily very hot most of the time. You can see the difference beside the Garnet which I have shown for comparison purposes.
The second has been grafted high so its height is not very useful for identification purposes. It gets some shade in the afternoon from a tall bamboo
Any ideas? Everything I consider has question marks attached. I have looked at Ornatum, Ever Red, Crimson Queen, Tamukeyama without conviction. Neither are Inaba Shidare or Garnet
The photographs are taken this month

Anything I have seen for Red Filigree Lace has a darker colouring. And surely a much more delicate leaf shape?

    Whis4ey,
It is very difficult, there are so many...
From what you say I would assume they are grafted cultivars. In order to give it a shot, for dissectums, people scan a leaf and then compare, can you do that?

The guy who has done the most analysis on dissectums is B. Choteau, he has a lot of material in his computer!!. Many of the pictures are in his website: http://www.cece-choteau.be/fr/catalogue.phps if you have the time you may do some search there.

    Thanks Gomero
I have been looking at photographs and descriptions of red dissectums for inspiration for some time now without success
Even two leaves off the same plant now look different to me ......
I have been beginning to wonder recently if, in fact, this little red number IS a grafted plant
Maybe it WAS a seedling and has turned out to be significantly different from the parent
Maybe I will just name it Whiskey and it will stop annoying me so much LOL
I will have a look at the website you suggested
    Regards
Thanks to you too Alex, for your suggestion
