Identification: Identifying a house plant

Hi there,
I'm wondering if anyone might be able to identify what type of plant this is? The plant itself is over seven feet tall, if that helps. Or, at the very least, whether the the plant leaves might be poisonous for consumption (a friend's cat ate some of the leaves from an offshoot of this plant)?
