This shrub is about 150 years old - just finished flowering - exquisitely fragrant! - very heavy, sweet scent - loaded with hundreds of bees and butterflies. I am in zone 3-4 - the bush is 8' high by 6' wide - and that's with yearly pruning. Any ideas? Thanks for your time!

    Yes Privet, possibly Ligustrum vulgare.

That's it! People kept trying to make me think it was a honeysuckle or abelia and it just didn't fit either of those. THANK YOU!!

Ligustrum, yes, but not Ligustrum vulgare, which has narrower leaves with a more acute apex. Maybe Ligustrum ovalifolium?

Thank you, Michael - when I paid closer attention to the leaves, I saw that you are correct! I love learning from you all - thanks again!
