Identify? Volunteer, maybe hibiscus

    Here’s what I observe.

    The plant is deciduous; some of the leaves are turning color.

    The stem appears woody and has vertical striations.

    The leaves are slightly rough, on both sides, like fine sandpaper. I looked at them with a magnifying glass; they appear course and leathery.

    When you crush a leaf, the smell is slightly pungent, a mix between lemon and sassafras.

    Looks a lot like my Lemon Slice hibiscus. Here you can see the variation in the leaves on 2 different plants of mine, grown from the same seed, growing 16' apart. ; )
