My dad has a tree that was given to him by his brother in California who said it's an Arizona Cypress. Any web searches on that name didn't bring up the tree. It appears to have the look of a juniper. If anyone can tell me what it's called, that'd be great. I'm also trying to cultivate a clipping from it and would appreciate some advice.
All that browning should not be occurring, may be having a pest problem (cypress tip moth?) or has picked up a pathogenic infestation. Suitable coastal climate area for this species quite restricted, possibly it is beyond its optimum range. Or maybe the soil/irrigation water has an unsuitable mineral content.
