So far tonight I've managed to identify 2 out of 3 plants that I was looking for. Either I'm getting tired of searching, or I'm just not describing this last one correctly. Can someone tell me what it is?

    Have a look at Lysimachia.

Hmm. The Lysimachia is different. Here are a couple close-ups. The leaves form a whorl of 4. The stems of the flowers or fruit or whatever they are emerge from the stalk with the leaves.

    Lysimachia quadrifolia, then, perhaps.

Click on the "Subordinate Taxa" tab on the USDA site for Lysimachia and compare against the species that occur in your region (Eastern Canada is kinda big for me to narrow down, since some occur in Ontario and not Quebec, some occur in Quebec and not Ontario, and others are absent from points east of there)

Thank you! You're right, it is one of the Lysimachia family of plants. I'm thinking either Lysimachia lanceolata or Lysimachia quadrifolia L.

Lysimachia is of course a genus and not a family.
