My mother gave me a plant for mothers day and I cannot figure out what it is. I'll describe it and maybe someone will know what it is.

It has dark green, rubbery leaves with light green veins. The leaves are an elongated heart shape. All I know is that my mother said when she bought it there was a sign on the shelf that said it was some type of African plant. It is not an African violet, I have those and this looks nothing like any of them. The leaves kind of remind me of a Caladium but it's not a bulb.

Can anyone help? If not I will get a photo of it and get it downloaded where I can send it.

Thanks to any of you who think you might be able to help

Thanks!!! It is the African Face Mask. When I did a search for that after I read your post it pulled it right up. I needed to know what it was so I would know exactly how to take care of it. I know that most tropical plants basically require the same care but sometimes you have to do special things to some of them. I love the plant, it is just so gorgeous!!! I also have Banana Trees and a couple of Peace Lilies. Those are the only things I keep in the house all the time so I want to be sure with them. I have Christmas and Easter Cactus but I put them outside in warmer weather.

Again, thank you so much. I really appreciate the help.
