Hi, I am trying to identify a shrub that my Mom had at her house. The only thing I know is that she called it bubbi rose (not sure about the spelling). It has a "bloom" that when held in your hand and warmed had a very distinctive order. Sort of a strawberry type smell. The bloom is a brick red or maroon color and has narrow petals. The outer petals open and the middle stays unopened. Sorry about the descriptions, I'm terrible at it. Thanks

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Have you heard it called Bubbi Rose? We live in the mountains of Virginia, so I thought that it was one of those "hillbilly" words that no one else had ever heard of. Also, do you know how to propagate? Thanks again

For many Jewish people bubbi means grandma, so it could just be grandma's rose?

Thanks again. There is still one of these bushes at my Mom's house and I would love to get be able to start a plant from there since I have such fond memories of that aroma.

Also available from nurseries, but stock I encounter here usually has small flowers with a poor smell. Buy in bloom to be sure of getting a good one.
