i have had this plant for about a year. i like it very much, but my boyfriend over-watered it when i was away (!) and now it is going moldy and not doing very well. i want to find info about watering/light conditions so i can start to heal it.
    any suggestions? huge thanks!

Looks like a Philodendron of some sort, but I couldn't tell you which one. Other Aroiders here who are more into Philos will probably be able to give you a concrete ID.

If it got overwatered, it's in need of a change of pot and soil - make sure it goes into soil with good drainage to help avoid the overwatering thing in the future. Bright, indirect light is usually best for Philos, and it looks like that one will be wanting to climb some time soon so it might be wise to get it a totem as well. You might also want to give it a bit of fertilizer. I like liquid fish, but that's just me; I'm known to bury sardines in with my plants. If you're going the chemical route, look for something balanced or specifically for tropical foliage plants.

Finally, maybe think of keeping your boyfriend away from your plants, if he has a tendency to overwater....

i agree it's some kind of philo - i'm not versed enough to hazard which one, though.

lorax gave good advice about how to deal with the overwatering. i'd definitely repot it - now - before any more damage is done to it. and adding a totem is a good idea as well.

Could be Philodendron erubescens, at a guess...

Thanks so much everyone. Its a Philodendron. I have repotted it with new soil and happily it seems to be on the mend.
