Identification: identify and cure

Discussion in 'Indoor and Greenhouse Plants' started by Cyndi from PA, Feb 3, 2005.

  1. I have a houseplant that is green with reddish-purple tinged stems and reddish-purple edges. The leaves look like a banana leaf. I have tried moving it in the sun, out of the sun, away from the HVAC (too cold--too warm), repotted it. The new leafs come out and look great, then they turn brown on the edges and die off. What am I doing wrong and what is this plant?

Could be low humidity or mineral salts. If the latter, there may be whitish salt deposits on the inner edges of the dead margins of the leaves.

  3. Re plant care

If you have tried different levels of sunlight and the problem persists, I would suggest trying more or less water (if you are watering it a lot, perhaps less, if you are not, perhaps more.)
