I am a conservation student conserving a Chinese lacquer Buddha. I found some seeds in the cavity at the back of the Buddha and I wanted to try and identify what they are. The Buddha is from China so I assume, so are the seeds.
My first thought was rice. They look like Oryza sativa, but appear to be too large. Here is a scan of rice seed from our collection. The whole image of several seeds is less than an inch wide. Maybe I am confused by your image. Is the seed an inch wide or a centimetre wide? http://botanyjohn.org/gallery/v/ubcbgseed/2006_680_0114.jpg.html?g2_imageViewsIndex=1
Thanks so much for the quick response. Sorry the size of the seed is unclear but it's just under 1cm. The rice seeds from the link do look very similar and it would certainly make sense. Thanks again.
