Last summer I cut down a crabapple in my yard that was on its last leg. Today I was out trying to remove the stump from the area and was disgustedly fasinated by the infestation in the stump and remaining roots. I would venture to guess that these pests were the cause of the poor tree's demise and not a new inhabitant since I cut the tree down. Following are some pictures of the larvae that I found infesting the tree remains. Can you help me identify them and tell me if other plants and trees are at risk in my yard. Thanks in advance

    Hi there.

Have you tried your county extension agent, who may be more familiar with your local pests and the proper management of them?

Also, if this is just the remaining wood from a tree you cut down a year ago it may be that the infestation occurred after the fact.
