Identification: What is this tree/shrub

    my neighbor in Phoenix area has this growing in her yard and I'm dying to know what it is. thanks!!

    The flowers look like little red fuzzy balls. See attachments. :-)

    This is Ricinus, R.communis or similar species.

    thank you so much! Just read that this is the most poisonous plant to humans and animals in the world. I will not be getting one. :-)

    Yes, it is poisonous. Many plants that are grown in ordinary gardens are poisonous. Most will do no harm as long as you do not eat them. As long as you are aware of those that can be harmful and treat them with respect, most can be grown successfully without a problem.
    Ricinus communis is a very impressive, interesting and colourful plant.

    interesting appearance.

    To me, it looks like having a sweet gum, Elderberry and Japanese maple all combined into one plant.
