I would be most grateful if someone could identify this plant. I studied it for a piece of ecology coursework but I have no idea what it is. I found it among grass on a hill, in Buxton (Peak District, England). Will happily make a small donation to anyone who can help (will require a Paypal account).
Probably a species of Ranunculus (buttercup), but too blurred to be certain. A sharp pic of a whole plant would be more useful than money!! :-)
Hi, I live in Northen BC and that looks like a buttercup leaf. Was there a yellow flower with four petals attached to the leaf? If so, it is a buttercup. You can look up a picture of a butter cup on line. Hope this helps. :)
I do not have any other photos of the plant and the camera on my phone was not great for close up shots. Would Ranunculus uncinatus be a fair guess? I'm not sure how to find out if it can be found in the UK. If there is no way that I could have found this plant in England, then I would be grateful if someone could tell me :-) Thanks I made the comparison with this picture and it looks pretty similar: http://www.nawwal.org/~mrgoff/photojournal/2003/sum/06-13littlebuttercupleaf.html
Ranunculus uncinatus doesn't occur in Britain. The common species here with leaves like your pic are (most abundant first): Ranunculus repens (Creeping Buttercup) Ranunculus acris (Meadow Buttercup) Ranunculus bulbosus (Bulbous Buttercup).
Hi Eco, If you're doing an ecology course, it would be worth your while getting a field guide to British plants (and maybe ditto for insects, birds, etc) - there are several on the market, some of them at a budget price if that's important.
