That ought to be fairly easy with the winged rachis, but I can't think myself what it is. My first thought was perhaps Rhus copallina, but that has entire (not serrated) leaflets, so it isn't that. It could be Pterocarya stenoptera, but I'm not convinced, it doesn't look quite right (leaflets too broad)
Thanks to all for your help. In fact i went to the botanical garden just close to me. Nobody knows that plant...Hardiness zone 7. I shall do a photo of the complete tree.
That definitely excludes Schinus terebinthifolius (zone 9/10). A photo of branch structure and leaf arrangement would also help a lot, and even better (if you can find any), flowers and/or fruit.
Hey...I'm an ignoramous on this exotic stuff. I found something similar, borrowed another replys "winged rachis" and Googled that phrase including the images tab. Found an image of a beat-up specimen. Look up Inga oerstediana on this page... http://images.google.com/imgres?img...q=%22winged+rachis%22&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&sa=N And it's image link, is what I found first... http://botany.cs.tamu.edu/FLORA/dcs420/cr/hdw18039930b.jpg What say ye... Found it also, on the MEGA page... http://images.google.com/imgres?img...es?q=inga+oerstediana&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&sa=G
Inga oerstediana looks very much like the specimen JPierre posted, M. D. Vaden; I think you may have solved this matter. The plant seems to be of South American origin. JPierre, I found some good pictures of the suggested plant to go along with M. D. Vaden's findings; take a look at them to see if they match the plant in question.
Looks like Rhus chinensis. Very common here in Japan. http://www.uark.edu/campus-resources/cotinus/plants3_html/rhch1.html U-shaped leaf scar (good ID key): http://shizuka.sakura.ne.jp/kobo/fuyume/nurude.htm
Not Inga - that's tropical, definitely not zone 7 hardy, and the pics don't show a serrated margin. Rhus chinensis looks good, though. Caution when handling - the sap may be severely irritant.
