Hi I live in southern Norway and my neighbor has a fruit tree in his garden but we don't know what kind of tree this is or if the fruit is good to eat. The fruit is bright yellow, the size is that of large cherries. The branches are very pointy like thorns as they come out of the tree but become lushy as they mature. included are some photos. Can someone identify this tree and fruit?

    daviedoozer,
Just a guess, but, could it be a Shiro plum? They are ripe now, at least in the PNW. That's the only yellow plum I can name, but I know there are several kinds. barb

Not sure about Japanese orchard plums working out in Norway. Cherry plum is common and widespread, details of leaf, flower and fruit point to which species is involved - keeping in mind that many of the numerous orchard plum cultivars are of hybrid origin.
