I need help to identify this fungus that appeared recently on my old prune tree. (picture attached)
Also, what can I do to get rid of it so it doesn't come back again. The garden store said sulphur - any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That looks like a young sulphur shelf mushroom, Laetiporus sulphureus; and the tree is going to die. Once the fruiting body (the mushroom) appears, the actual fungus will have spread through a large volume of the tree's interior. The tree may hang on for a while, but it will die within a few years. Since the mushroom (also known as the chicken mushroom) is quite edible, you might have a dual crop for a while.
