Thanks for the posting, and the ID! I've seen that in three botanical gardens on O'ahu and managed to forget all about it, or at least didn't recognize it. They're so showy, about which Top Tropicals (Amherstia nobilis, Pride of Burma, Orchid Tree -) says "Perhaps the most beautiful of flowering tropical trees". "Pride of Burma" (common name) indeed.
Yes! thank you. I knew it looked familiar, reminded me of Eperua falcata (the Bootlace Tree) a related tropical tree with flowers hanging from long tendrils. E. falcata has a similarly large machete blade-like seedpod which, upon maturing, opens and flings the large seeds to impressive distances.
