Can someone ID this flower/plant. I found it in a pond near a beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Thanks in advance :)

    Hi superaimee,
What did the leaves look like? Were they long, lance-shaped leaves? It looks kind of similar to wampee (which is a fairly common invasive aquatic plant in many southern states), the height and locale sound likely but the curly flower growth somehow doesn't look right. Try googling Pontederia lanceolata and check out the leaves to see if it might be your plant or a close relative. Hope this was helpful, good luck!

Thank you so much for your help! I'm almost positive you're dead-on. It does indeed have rather long leaves and I did a search on Pontederia lanceolata, saw some photos... when I took the photo of it, it hadn't blossomed yet. I went back to the pond tonight and the flowers had blossomed more and were dark blue/violet, kind of like in many of the photos online.

I think the curly petals aren't as distinct once the flowers have blossomed fully.
