I think it's a wild flower or weed? They are beautiful though, I would like to leave them, but not if they are invasive? I'll pulled them out last year, but they are back, right in the middle of my shrubs. Also, there is a brutal hardy wood weed (almost tree like) also growing there you can see it directly infront of flowers, with the yellow/green leaves, theres a few of them. Thanks.....
My advice is pull it up. A few years ago it popped up in one of my flower beds. Now it is popping up all over the place despite that I pull up any and all the shoots and leaves I can see. According to the info in Wikipedia, Campanula rapunculoides "native to Europe and western Siberia . . . has been introduced to North America, where it has become an invasive weed". Too bad, because it looks really nice and innocent.
I thought they were weeds.....but, Oh my God, I googled C. rapunculoides, and went to Davesgarden and it was basically called an "Evil Purple Monster" that you can't kill, there's lots of posts about how bad it is. I'll be trying to dig them out today, what a bummer, they really are pretty. It would be great if you had a lot of land to let them grow freely, it would be beautiful. Thanks for the help.
Dig deep... unless you get the basal, white, carrot-like root out (which grows very deeply), you won't be rid of it. Most people only remove the thready, spreading roots, which sets it back for a while, but does not remove the plant.
