Identification: ID requested for probable native BC plant.

Plant seen near Alberni Inlet, ca. 3km north of China Creek. Unable to find in Pojar and McKinnon and other BC reference books - thank you !

I certainly would never have matched the plants we were looking at to the photo in Pojar and MacKinnon !

 

I've never seen them clustered like they are in Pojar and MacKinnon -- I have seen them like your photograph, though, on the banks of the Koksilah River.

I was also confused by leaves being almost glabrous on the plants we saw -
obviously a somewhat variable species !
