Hey guys, I got this at Home Depot today. I just thought it looked really cool and I've been wanting to get some plants for my room. All it was marked as was "tropical foliage." lol - can anyone id it so i kno what i have and also how to care for it?? thanks so much. -josh
It's a Croton. Crotons need plenty of light and some humidity. Put it outside in the warmer months if you can, for now though, you can use a pebble tray for extra humidity, just make sure the water in with the pebbles aren't touching the bottom of the pot. It should be just above the water. The soil should dry a bit between waterings. Keep an eye out for spidermites, they don't like humidity.
Additionally, while it likes to be humid it hates wet feet. Make sure that your soil drains well, then keep it moist but not soggy. The pebble tray that Bluewing suggests will help it immensley. I grow these and their relatives outdoors, and when they're happy they make very attractive little shrubs.
