Husband brought this plant home from work when the secretary "cleaned house". I need to know what it is and whether it is poisonous to cats. Any help you could provide would be welcome!! Thanks!
Sorry - the pictuer took a minute to come up. It looks like a diffenbachia. If it is, it is poisonous to pets.
yes it is a chinese evergreen . not sure about it being poisonous .. but i would google it ..most cats do stay away from poisonous plants .. unless you have kittens ..they learn from mistakes :( Marn
Athough listed as one of the safe plants on the Childrens Safety Association of Canada, it is listed on enough poisonous plants pages (contains oxalates) to be classed as such, I think at least for cats which was the question. Not all animals are smart enough to know what is good or not good for them. Even the human animal sometimes engages in very self destructive behavior. Harry
well the plant was so pretty we were planning on planting it in a big planter on the fireplace. Guess thats out. I have 3 cats and one IS a kitten. They are very smart, but the still chew on EVERY plant so I guess this one will have to stay on a really high shelf. Thanks for the help
if you want it to stay alive ,i would get that foil off the pot immeadiately.is probably full of water and will kill the plant.and if in doubt.always consider poisonous.
Well I think it looks like an Aglaonema, probably A. commutatum. Dieffenbachias have rather larger leaves with more veins and a wider, more recurving leaf stalk.
