Can someone please help with this id? I believe we have it ruled down to a Trichocereus species, but don't know much else or specifically which one.

The spines are smaller than what I see in other images here. The flowers were beautiful in this nearly 6 foot (mostly uncared for) greenhouse plant at our cabin. Prior to flowering, we had not been there (no water or care) for over 6 months. The plant is kept in a 5 gallon pot. Is this unusual?

Thanks for the help with the id.

I am not much proficient in cacti, so I would not like to be misleading. Start with the list of most popular species (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cereus) and try to find their descriptions that specify individual species. There might be some tiny details that could be difficult to judge from the photo.

    Probably Cereus hildmannianus subsp. hildmannianus.
