Please help ID the following flowers growing "wild" on Oahu, Hawaii. (I put wild in quotes because I have no idea if they are indigenous or not.) Also, please suggest some online resources where I can put in plant/flower characteristics and find the common and/or scientific name. (I an NOT a botanist - just someone who likes to take pictures but hates not knowing what's residing in my pix...) Thanks! http://www.flickr.com/photos/55257385@N00/2094983222/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/55257385@N00/2094982646/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/55257385@N00/2094982262/ These next two seem quite similar http://www.flickr.com/photos/55257385@N00/2094209077/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/55257385@N00/2094287352/ Sorry for the links. Apparently I used all of my attachment space in a previous set of posts and haven't yet figured out how to delete them (noob...)
Maybe not?? It looks a bit more like Formosa koa ( http://www.hear.org/starr/hiplants/images/thumbnails/html/acacia_confusa.htm ). Acacia koa seems to have slightly fatter leaves and the flowers are less dense and paler. But I may be completely wrong. <grin>
Heck, I don't know. But it was great getting a starting point. When you don't even have a common name, it can be challenging to search... Thanks! Anyone on the other pix?
Don't know about the Hawaiian ones, but looking through your photo collection, the ones from Hyde Park are indeed Sweet Chestnut Castanea sativa.
