Hi Folks A friend of mine suggested this site as an excellent site for plant identifications. So I have registered and post this picture of a plant that has been bugging me for some time now. It was photographed in Peru between Qenqo & Pukapukara (near Cusco) in May 2002. Pre-digital days, so apologies for the quality of the scan from a slide. My instincts were to go with Acanthaceae, but I really haven't a clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Andrew
It's one of the Centropogons, I believe.... C. capitatus is quite similar. I find the Field Museum Plant Guides to be invaluable in such IDs - have a check through yourself; I'd put this plant in the Lobeliaceae/Campanulaceae. The flower shape is all wrong for the Acanthaceae. You don't happen to have foliage photos?
Hi lorax Thanks for the link. Looking at pictures on the internet I am not convinced about it being a Centropogon. I know the leaves are not shown in the photo, but from memory they do not look right. However using your link I found a photo of a plant that looks similar. Bartsia camporum. http://fm2.fieldmuseum.org/plantguides/guide_pdfs/124 Vert. Occidental v1.0.pdf also http://zambolandia.com/papers/puklla1/reg_bot_arboles.html Regards Andrew
