    IMG_568b5.JPG Hi,

Could someone id this seedling? It is growing in N.Virginia, Appalachian Mtns in a disturbed cove forest. Seedling has odd looking primaries and it is about 4 inches tall. Picture was taken a couple of days ago...mid April.

    Thank-you for any help!

That's going to have to grow a bit more before I can make any suggestions.

Yeah, it's going to have to grow more before making a solid guess. For now, I'll guess Claytonia virginica, however, they've already been flowering for weeks up here in Michigan.

Thank-you both for your input. We got off to an early Spring but then the rain stopped and things stopped growing....have not seen Claytonia virginica around here...if it ever was here the deer got it....so I don't think it's that....kind of looks like a tree seedling now? Here are the secondary leaves....?

I don't know what that is. I'd be interested to see more pics as it develops though.

Looks like a maple seedling to me. Too young to identify to species level.

Yes, it does! THAT is exciting.....must hide from deer....maples do not survive around here....all we have left are paw paws and tulip poplars :(

    Thank-you for your input!
