Wildflowers: ICELAND FLOWER ID: Snæfellsjökull

    Hi Guys,

    I took this photo near Snæfellsjökull in the western peninsula of Iceland two years ago. It was taken in July. It's something similar to scottish asphodel, but I don't think that's the mark.

    I'm putting together a photo album of these flowers for my girlfriend's birthday and although I've been able to identify 48 other flowers, this and two others have escaped my search. Does anyone have a possible ID on this flower?

    Looks something like the Micranthes nelsoniana identified in this thread, with the exception of the reddish pistil. Like noted in the other thread, though, there are 9 varieties of Micranthes nelsoniana recognized in SaxBase -- an extremely variable species, in other words.

    Thanks for the quick response, Daniel - perhaps it is a cordate-leaved saxifrage?
